The Decentralised Administration of Macedonia – Thrace (coordinating partner) and the General Secretariat for Natural Environment and Water of the Ministry of Environment and Energy organised a series of events on the 13th of October 2023, in the context of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, within the framework of “Joint flood risk governance and management in the Axios/Vardar cross border area – FLOOD SHIELD” PROJECT. The events took place at the International Center for Digital Transformation and Digital Skills in the city of Thessaloniki -Greece but virtual participation was also provided. 🙋♀️✅🖥
The main objective 🎯 of the events was to discuss the new challenges that central, regional and local authorities 👩✈️👨🚒, as well as the business world, the academic community, voluntary organisations and local communities have to face due to the increase in the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events and the climate crisis in general, which bring to the fore the need for immediate measures to protect citizens and the environment. 🦺🌊
Apart from the formal and short briefing on the project and the legacy it will leave in the region, the agenda of the events included two (2) round tables in order for stakeholders to discuss and highlight any problems in order to address them in an effective and timely manner and also to raise awareness and point out the necessity for common action among all stakeholders involved.
The events were preceded by a press conference🎥 where the FLOOD SHIELD project, its expected results and its added value for the region, was presented to journalists and through them to the general public. 🙋♂️
